Oil Spill or Hot Potato?

Oil_spill_may4

It seems nobody wants to be responsible for the oil spill so this is going to take up taxpayers money and media bandwidth to do so. Meanwhile we will continue to wage wars for this stuff and drive our gas-powered cars.

If there is anyone to blame it is the human race. We are pointing fingers at corporations for the oil spill but we should point the fingers at ourselves. Sure, there needs to be some accountability for the spill but then what? There will be more accidents and oil spills after we crucify another corporation.

Why don't we use this event as a launch pad? This tragedy can be turned into something good and Americans can lead the way. The time is now to start moving towards smarter methods to collect energy and use that energy to power homes, cars, and industry. If you still need to use a "climate change is a scam" platform then you are a lost cause. We are talking about air pollution, water pollution, and animal endangerment here. If this does not make you want tot change then nothing will.

Let's see how many times this blame is shifted from one company to another. Maybe they will find a way to blame Toyota or a brake pedal.

Has the energy used to promote 350.org done more damage than good?

350org_coal_voxel

I was at the Exploratorium today at a KQED forum with Michael Krasny. I was there to hear Bill McKibben, activist, founder of the international climate campaign 350.org and author of books including "Eaarth: Making a Life on a Tough New Planet"

Also in the panel was Saum Zargar, AP environmental science teacher at Terra Linda High School in Marin County and Amoreena Treff, field science educator at the Headlands Institute Campus of NatureBridge, the largest environmental education partner of the National Park Service.

Bill claims their are "energizing young people around the world" to have protests and use their website to educate people about the number 350.

Bill states we damaged the planet already and it won't get better unless we  take action. Besides writing a book and using Voxel as a data center who is using mainly coal to power their servers, what action have they taken?

Bill is right, it is time to make touch choices. I hope he and his team of people look at making a smarter method to broadcast their message than to use tons of coal, resources, trees, and fossil fuels to power their message in the future.

Listen to the broadcast here:

If you feel Bill and 350.org should not use a fossil fuel host then let them know here:

SXSW & Earth Day Promotion

Screen_shot_2010-04-21_at_10

Sure SXSW was in March but it took a week to recover, then spring break happened, then tax time bummed us out. Now, it is time to finally send out a respectable promotion. On Earth Day!

This is quite an amazing offer. Switch to solar web hosting, save money and get 100% uptime.

On top of that, don't pay for setup. That saves you $200 bucks right there.

For the zinger, get an iPod Touch, Apple iPad, or MacBook Air by signing up for 12 months. Most customers stay for over 10 years anyway so the chances of anyone being unhappy by switching is very unlikely. We don't need "over enthusiastic support" because our technology is stable and we won't have power issues as long as the sun keeps rising in the east.

For those who went to SXSW, this is the offer that was promised at the booth. For those who wish you went to SXSW and still want to take advantage of this offer, just say you went to SXSW and mention this promo code: SXSW2010.

See the offer here:

Shhhhh.... Pass it on ;-)

Earth Day for Businesses

In today's technology dominated world, the modern company does not have industrial waste. It is worse that that, a company consumes large amounts of fossil fuels to power their data each day. This is not about global warming or climate change, this is about using 21st century energy for 21st century innovation.

It's not something founders or executives think about when focusing on their product, service, or game-changing idea. This Earth Day 2010, if there are some positive changes that your business wants to make, then consider these factors when switching to solar-powered servers at the most innovative data center in the world:

1. Save money using solar energy
2. Reduce fossil fuel consumption dramatically
3. Create a positive message about your company
4. Get off the carbon offset dependance before consumer and media backlash begins

Just mention the promo code "EARTHDAY2010" and we will get you a dedicated server to test out. If you sign up in April or May, then we will help move your application and data over to the new solar servers.

Use Solar Power to Send and Share Files

Solarsendit_file_sharing_clean

The kind folks at Thunk, Inc. (http://www.thunkdesign.com) created a nifty tool called SolarSendIt (http://www.solarsendit.com/) that allows people to share files up to 300MB for free. The application is built on the Touchcloud platform at AISO.net.

The simple sharing service creates a unique token URL that can be emailed instead of using attachments. This is a product in testing now and feedback is welcomed.

The only fossil fuel energy being used is from the computers from the sender and receiver of the file. Check it out:

Premium version may be available but we'd rather take an existing file sharing tool and host that with our solar data center. Any takers?

Is Repower America Powered by Coal?

Repoweramerica_server_virginia

I get these inspirational email messages to take action from Repower America (http://www.repoweramerica.org/) and they have a mission to help reduce energy consumption, create more jobs, and reduce global warming.

So here I am calling senators and signing petitions and hoping the Internet can help drive new policies to reduce the use of fossil fuels in the transportation sector. What, the transportation sector?

Yes, I had to stop and read that again on their site. What about the low hanging fruit in areas like manufacturing, packaging, lighting, HVAC, and data? None of those require torque.

The criticism in this post is the same for other projects that have a lofty agenda and roadmap that is far more out of reach than other energy reducing efforts. Not only that but massive bandwidth is being wasted on this website being hosted at SingleHop but the server location is in Herndon, Virginia. Why is Repower America is powered by fossil fuels and not on a renewable energy source?

If anyone there finds this post, let us make the switch. This is an easy change and we love the mission, action, and marketing. The servers need to be on a solar-powered network this year don't you think?

The Touchcloud Platform

We are asked, "is Touchcloud a reseller of AISO.net?"

No, Touchcloud is a product designed by Thunk, Inc. (http://thunkinc.com) and AISO.net that focuses on the needs of entertainment industry. That means we will build or buy whatever is needed to move their in-house solutions over to our solar-powered network.

The platform is not plug-and-play or a set of tools because the needs are so varied that we design the tools for the needs of our customers. AISO.net has the packages for shared hosting and dedicated and those are solid products built on the same network. Touchcloud is the AISO.net offspring that is able to handle the bigger projects and special requirements. Plus we are able to help realize visions our audience may have and will need more specialized technology, marketing, and strategic partners.

Greenpeace and Facebook Criticized About Hosting On Coal Data Centers

The timing of these stories (click here) getting attention could not be better. Earth Day is right around the corner and the media is starting to focus on the impact of carbon offsets the last decade. In typical 20/20 fashion, the questions would be:

1. How much money has gone into carbon offsetting?
2. Has anything been done?
3. Who is behind these offset organizations?

Greenpeace’s Hosting: Not ‘Truly Green’

Touchcloud is a data center that is powered by 100% solar energy and the air conditioning using rain water collection for cooling the data center.

Get Facebook Off Coal

There is a Facebook page that has a growing number of fans who do not want to have their data powered by fossil fuels.

The same thing will happen to the music industry. This is just like the overpackaging of CD's over 10 years ago where fans and musicians demanded that they don't want this waste. The same thing will happen with data. Make some noise!

Their logo is a bit ornery so we made a new one they are free to use above.
